SCIENCE-BASED READING IN THE CLASSROOM CONNECTIONS: OG IN 3D® AS THE CURRICULUM

August 4th 2017 6:00pm - 9:00pm & August 5th  9:00am - 3:00pm

Two day course:

In Connections, the students and teacher get more bang for their buck because all five components of reading are woven in. Multisensory grammar is built in from lesson 1, using 3D objects, colors, and symbols. Comprehension is built in from lesson 1 through strategies used in typical guided reading lessons, but with the benefit of decodable texts. We have added the Primary Phonics readers aligned to each lesson in addition to the Personalized Readers. In the second semester of first grade, guided reading leveled readers can be used if they are chosen well. We include instruction in how to do this. Vocabulary is taught through objects and through morphology. Fluency is built into each lesson.

COST: $500 FOR CLASS ONLY, OR $1,000 FOR CLASS & CLASSROOM SET OF SUPPLIES

APPLE SEED

“We are planting the seeds to grow ready readers using science-based reading”

APPLE Seed will provide participants to teach emergent readers in a one-on-one, or group of up to four students, for a thirty-minute session, two to three times a week.  The plan is to work with children the teachers have targeted as students struggling with phonemic awareness and learning the sounds of letters. These are young children and once a week is not enough time for them to internalize what we are teaching.  Repetition is the key.

We will use objects to teach the sound that each letter makes.  We will also teach the child to write that letter in a bead tray so he can imprint the letter and its sound into his brain.  We will teach the child basic sight words. We will divide these into two groups: words you can sound out and words that break the rules that you can’t sound out.   We will teach the child this by hearing, saying, seeing, and feeling.

Cost $450

Phonemic Awareness Course for Preschools and Parents

When: May 13th, 2017

Time: 9:00 am – 12:00pm

Research shows that the

Two Most Valuable Factors for Predicting Reading Success are

 1.    Knowledge of Letter Names and of Letter Sound

 2.   Phonemic Awareness

Participants will

  • Gain hands-on experience in teaching the five levels of phonemic awareness
  • Take home 5 kits of 3D objects and 15 different phonemic awareness activities

This workshop is for

  • Parents and educators who work with children ages 3-7 years old
  • OR parents or educators of older children who may be struggling with reading and spelling

Parents can prepare your child to become a reader, giving him/her the foundation to literacy. Preschools whose teachers have been trained by The APPLE Group in the Phonemic Awareness Course will be placed on our website and will be able to advertise that they’ve had this training.

Learn how to teach a child phonemic awareness in a direct, explicit, multisensory way. Objects are used to represent sounds. Where alphabet books are good at showing a picture that begins with the letter sound being taught, we made it even better by using an object the child can actually hold. They can feel the sound the letter i makes when they hold an iguana, for example. Then they learn to recognize, segment, differentiate, and manipulate sounds through activities that cover all five levels of phonemic awareness. This is the building block for reading.

COST: $200 (PLEASE GO TO OUR STORE TO REGISTER & PAY)

A six hour course in systematic, multi-sensory techniques for teaching the acquisition of the basic skills for reading, sponsored by The APPLE Group, Inc. of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

COST $450 (price includes: training and materials for up to 4 students).

Research shows that between 15% -20% of the population have some form of dyslexia. That means there are several children struggling with this in every classroom. They are the intelligent, creative, verbal, artistic, “smart kids” who for some reason have trouble reading printed symbols.  They are good thinkers who are tactile-kinesthetic learners and need to be taught using several different senses together. We want these special kinds of learners to be “saved” if their reading skills are caught early and helped before their self-esteem becomes an issue.

Research shows that the two most valuable factors for predicting reading success are knowledge of letter names and of letter sounds and phonemic awareness. We use multi-sensory techniques to teach children who are having trouble with this.
